It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself to you as Laporte School’s new K-5 Literacy Coach. My name is Robyn Christopher, and I am looking forward to working with the teachers and administration at Laporte School over the next two years as part of the Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Grant. Literacy is something that is learned through reading, writing, listening, and speaking, and is enhanced by the constant practice of these abilities. As a Literacy Coach, I will be helping Laporte teachers teach reading by modeling and observing in your child's classroom. In addition, I offer resources and support as teachers give assessments and interpret student data to improve instruction and empower students to find the joy in reading so they may become lifelong readers.
Your child’s classroom teacher has many amazing things planned in the area of reading this year. I am very much looking forward to working with teachers to build upon those efforts. You are a very important part of this journey, too! Throughout the year, you will receive updates about what is happening in your child’s classroom so you can become involved and support the learning that is taking place in school. Your child’s classroom teacher will be the best person to continue to ask specific questions you have about your child and his/her reading. I am happy to serve as a resource if you have questions about ways you can continue to foster a love for reading at home. Also, if you are interested in becoming involved in school and community events, please feel free to contact me any time.
