EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION

efceWHAT IS ECFE??
ECFE is a parenting education program for all Minnesota families with children between the ages birth to kindergarten entrance.

ECFE works to support you as a parent/caregiver and to strengthen and empower families.  The goal is to enhance the ability of all parents and other family members to provide the best possible environment to their child’s learning and developing.

ECFE has been a part of the Laporte Community since February of 1987 when the program was started by Diane Sauer and Linda McNamara.

ECFE classes are free of charge to area families, but we do ask for free-will donations to help us keep up with expenses.

ECFE is currently NOT holding weekly class as it has in the past.  Due to the pandemic and safety restrictions we have replaced, ECFE with a once a month “Family Fun Night”. The families of children 5 years and younger can pick up a bag of goodies on the designated “Family Fun Night”  the bag contains, family activities, crafts, games, parent resources and a bag supper for your family.   The best part is that it is FREE.

*****  In the future when it is safe to do, we will have the family fun nights in the school gym.

We have preschool options for three- and four-year-old children.

Laporte’s School Readiness program is designed for 4 year olds the year before Kindergarten. Due to a big class size, we had to split into two sections.  Each section is attending two days per week.  Our funding is a combination of state aid, donations, grants, and fundraisers.

We also offer programming two days per week to 3 year olds this year.  This program has limited availability.  We hope to expand the number of openings in the future.

Currently we have 30 students enrolled in the programs.  About half of them attend on Mondays and Wednesdays, the other group Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We are always looking for parent and community volunteers for classroom assistance and help with fundraisers.
